This M. Ed program is designed for candidates who seek to increase their, knowledge, skills, and competence in designing and teaching STEM and STEAM courses, to adequately integrate emergent technologies and/or the arts. With the overarching goal of offering diverse learning opportunities and greater access to STEM for all learners, this program employs culturally responsive teaching, project-based learning, inquiry-based learning, student-centered active learning, collaboration, and affective engagement to meet twenty-first century learning needs. Program emphasis is on STEM or STEAM lesson design and teaching, curriculum design, and assessment, and leadership development so that candidates will be prepared to meet the evolving needs of schools and districts in positions such as STEM/STEAM teachers, STEM/STEAM coordinators, instructional leaders, and curriculum developers. The program can be completed in 24 months and includes three courses that are eligible towards an endorsement certificate for teaching middle school mathematics. In addition, six credits in the core curriculum count toward meeting requirements for the 12-credit New Jersey Supervisory Certificate.
