William Paterson University in Wayne, N.J. received full accreditation for its Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology Program from the American Psychological Association (APA). The program was fully accredited for ten years, with an effective date of December 2, 2021.
“We are thrilled to receive this prestigious accreditation for our doctoral program in clinical psychology,” says Wartyna Davis, dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. “It is an honor and testament to the hard work and commitment demonstrated by our students, faculty, staff and administrators in adhering to the highest standards in education and clinical experience.”
“We are delighted to have achieved this significant milestone,” says Jan Mohlman, co-director of the PsyD graduate program in clinical psychology. “This was truly a team effort and represents the culmination of many years of planning, revising, and implementation,” adds Megan Chesin, who is also co-director of the program.
The doctor of psychology degree at William Paterson is a professional doctorate designed to prepare graduates for practice in psychology. Students who complete the doctoral degree are eligible to take the national examination and after completing all state requirements can pursue licensure as a psychologist.
The APA Commission on Accreditation is the primary accreditor in the United States for professional education and training in psychology. APA accreditation assures the public that a program has clearly defined training that aims to meet professional and scientific standards that support the successful, ethical, and skillful delivery of psychological service.
